Why leadership at 40 needs a system, not aspiration

/ Coach Leighroy

Subjective feedback systems disproportionately affect a person at 40 compared to 20.

And that’s because work and productivity become an illusion of your own making the older you get, because your experience of time becomes distorted.

You can’t lead on subjective thinking forever

At 40 you can’t rely on subjective thinking the same way you did at 20. You need to think inside objective structure — otherwise you’re fighting through the distraction of 20 years more life experience, cognitively and subconsciously.

Your system for leadership is what defines you at 40. And if you get this right, you can compound results inside any venture an order of magnitude faster.

Ask the executives

If you don’t believe this, just ask an Amazon or Facebook executive what makes their company efficient — and they will describe a system for leadership.

Ask a YC startup company what makes their company efficient, and they will say the people and culture.

That’s because at 20 people respond to aspirational, subjective leadership. At 40 people respond to systematic, objective leadership.
